Life Beyond FGS Global

Loves travel (often to Italy), football, golf, movies and reading. Enjoys trying new restaurants in London (Thai food is a favourite).

James is a Managing Director at Finsbury Glover Hering having joined in 2013 from The Independent and Evening Standard, where he was the retail and leisure correspondent for five years.

James co-leads the consumer team in London and has significant experience of financial communications, campaigns, M&A, crises and restructuring, as well as corporate and leadership positioning. At Finsbury he has advised some of the UK and Europe’s largest and most high-profile companies in sectors, including retail and consumer, commercial property, transport, telecoms, and cloud computing and enterprise software.

Whether handling high-profile crises, large transactions, building brand recognition or driving leadership positioning campaigns, James provides clients with strategic advice at all levels of engagement. He also supports clients on developing their ESG strategies and how to communicate these effectively with stakeholders.

His capital markets experience includes large and complex mergers and acquisitions, and private equity-led takeovers in the UK and globally. This work has given James a detailed knowledge of competition and regulatory processes around transactions.

James has a proven track record of writing op-eds and speeches for senior executives, helping to ensure they get the recognition they deserve among stakeholders.

Before joining Finsbury Glover Hering, James gained a deep understanding of retail and consumer industries, as well as restructuring processes during the financial crisis and beyond on The Independent and Evening Standard. He was news editor at the trade publication Retail Week prior to this. He graduated from Warwick University and lives in London.
