Barney Gimbel

As a partner at Finsbury Glover Hering, Barney draws from his decades of experience in investment banking, journalism and government to advise clients on communications strategies in a wide range of financial, corporate and crisis situations. His areas of expertise include crisis management, executive transitions, employee communications, litigation support, cybersecurity and data privacy issues, media relations and high-profile transactions.

Before joining Finsbury, Barney was a director with Hannam & Partners, the London-based merchant bank, where he founded the firm’s sovereign advisory practice and advised clients on transactions in the natural resources and transportation sectors.

Prior to investment banking, Barney worked for the U.S. Department of Defense as special assistant to Deputy Under Secretary of Defense Paul A. Brinkley, who led the Pentagon’s economic stabilization efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Barney traveled extensively to Iraq and Afghanistan to help run the program’s foreign direct investment initiatives, coordinate intra-government relations and manage the team’s media relations program. After government service, he returned to Iraq to help set up a Pritzker Organization investment fund that built businesses in that country’s oilfield and transportation sectors.

Barney began his professional life as a journalist, first with Newsweek and then with Fortune. He holds a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University and bachelor’s degree in political science from Emory University. He lives with his family in Brooklyn, New York.
