Paul Poteet

Paul Poteet is a Partner at FGS Global in the firm’s Government Affairs Division. Previously, he served as Senior Policy Advisor and Tax and Trade Counsel to U.S. Senator John Thune (R-SD), the Senate Republican Whip, member of the Senate Finance Committee and then-Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee. During his senate tenure Paul was named by Tax Notes as one of the top 10 tax staffers in Congress. In the 112th Congress, Paul also served as Republican Staff Director for the Finance Committee’s Subcommittee on International Trade, Customs and Global Competitiveness.

Prior to joining Senator Thune’s office, Paul served over five years as Director of Federal Government Relations at the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), a trade association representing the U.S. biotechnology sector. Paul also served as Senior Policy Advisor for tax and trade issues to Congressman Wally Herger (R-CA), a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Paul holds an LLM in taxation from Georgetown Law, a JD from The George Washington University Law School, an MA in Government from Johns Hopkins University and a BA in Political Science and Economics from Louisiana State University where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.
