Nedra Pickler is a Washington-based Partner in the Strategic Communications Division at Finsbury Glover Hering. She brings deep perspective from inside the media after nearly two decades at The Associated Press and as a commentator on television and radio.
Nedra covered the Obama and George W. Bush presidencies, responsible for fast-paced coverage of a wide range of foreign and domestic issues from the White House and on presidential trips around the globe. As the AP’s lead reporter documenting Barack Obama’s first presidential campaign, she was part of an election team nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the 2008 race. She also previously covered the federal courts, including legal disputes and criminal investigations involving corporations and prominent figures.
Nedra is a proud native of Flint, Michigan, where many of her family members worked in the auto plants and her grandfather was the sports editor of the Flint Journal. She followed in his footsteps by attending the Journalism School at Michigan State University. Upon graduating, she was hired by the AP’s Detroit bureau to cover breaking news—Jack Kevorkian frequently provided headlines at the time. Ten months later, she moved to Lansing to pursue her dream of covering politics. After a year assigned to the state Legislature, she transferred to the AP’s Washington bureau where she covered politics and regulation of the auto industry. In 2002, she was awarded the John L. Dougherty Award for her coverage of the Ford-Firestone tire scandal.

17 years at The Associated Press, mostly on the campaign trail and at White House under Presidents Obama and George W. Bush.

Can be found on the weekends cheering on her sons’ Little League games and riding her bike through Rock Creek Park.
